After years of waiting for Garry to shut the factory and get into retirement mode, the day finally came on the 1st October 2020. When then another long period of time began before setting sail around the world.
Garry wanted a 55ft to 60ft yacht with a large living space due to what he is used to living in, furling sails with an owners cabin. The hull had to be steel or aluminium so it was sturdy, which being an Engineer made sense. Draft capable of Caribbean cruising, blue water self contained live abroad with a center cockpit, air con and heating. Ideally with an engine room and suitable for short hand sailing all for a budget of £100k. Moving forward we will call it the dream yacht list aka the Unicorn.
Martin from Go Earth had been selected to help locate this yacht/unicorn on which Garry wants to sail around the world in. The email was received with a list of boats which the search had highlighted good for Garry in his price range. Martin and his team had done a fabulous job on finding yachts with the tall order supplied ………………. Garry hated all of them.
With a second knee replacement operation rapidly approaching boat shopping was put on hold as Garry knew he needed to go back to the drawing board with his idea of the unicorn yacht.
After the pain subsided reality soon set in, all the nice boats are out of our price range. Months of boat shopping started on the internet, constantly trolling through boat for sale sites trying to find which make of boat was the one.
